District Governor’s Visit

On Wednesday 15th September  Karen and Martti Kankunnen spent the day in Mossman with our members. District Governor Martti Kankunnen and Karen were treated to a brief tour of Mossman and Port Douglas before a working lunch with the Mossman Rotary Board members at Mayi Cafe at Mossman Gorge. After lunch we had a private guided tour of the Gorge, starting with a traditional smoking ceremony before taking us through the lush rainforest. We learnt about traditional plant use and bush foods along with traditions such as making bush soaps and ochre.   Area Governor David Kirchner was decorated with ochre by Karen and was a great sport to wear his face paint for the rest of the day and evening.

In the evening we had dinner at the Mossman Bowls Club where DG Martti and Karen inspired us with their vision for this Rotary year. DG Martti and Mossman President Roby inducted our new member Robyn Gray and welcomed her to the Rotary Club of Mossman.
