About Mossman Rotary Club

Mossman is located on the northern end of the Cook Highway, 75 kilometres north of Cairns and 20 minutes north of Port Douglas. Situated in the picturesque Mossman River Valley in Far North Queensland it is the gateway to the Daintree National Park and nearby world renowned Mossman Gorge. Mossman township population is approx 2000 while the surrounding communities of Cooya, Newell and Wonga have another 2000. The district economy is rural based, sugar cane farming being the dominant industry, with horticulture tourism and cattle also being important sectors. The district has a significant indigenous population, the Kuku Yalanji people who have inhabited this area for many generations. The Rotary Club of Mossman was chartered in May 1955, by the Rotary Club of Cairns. It has a mixed gender membership of 16. Its members, through Rotary, serve the community by working to benefit charitable organizations and generally promoting good citizenship.
